Development Communication Society, Nepal (SODEC–Nepal), established in 2010, is a forum of journalists and social scientists who believe in social transformation through development communication is a distinct reality. The thrust of this organization is to make continuous advocacy through production and dissemination of relevant information to general public by respecting their right to information through advocacy, media survey, media research etc. Our communication efforts have been diverse and deal with different sectors like food security, land reform, poverty reduction, environment and climate change, alternative energy, public health, sanitation, disease, education, agriculture and rights based media advocacy. Since its inception, SODEC-Nepal is working to stimulate overall development communication believing that proper communication can stimulate the tremendous achievements. The organization offers its services being guided by the Millennium Development Goals, national plans, Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and other development guidelines. SODEC-Nepal works to supplement in the national and international developmental agendas and guidelines.
SODEC-Nepal has started to realize its goals and move ahead of overall development through participatory approach which can sustain the developmental endeavor. This approach of communication incorporates all communities and sectors that need to be embraced by the media. We raise the issues of deprived and exploited so that they can be brought into mainstream of development. This vision cannot be achieved only with the sole effort the organization. Therefore, it is moving ahead by joining hands with Government Organizations, other Non government Organizations, Donor Agencies, Business Groups, Civil Society and other institutions for social transformation by abiding the compatible goals and guidelines.
SODEC-Nepal believes that the potentials of information and communication can be harnessed to promote human friendly development. This organization has laid participatory communication in the fore front to support the thematic activities. Past and present involvement and partnership with development agencies, government line ministries, CBOs, CSOs and private sector have helped to reach and implement people friendly policies for the benefit of the society. We have successfully worked with several development organizations and government agencies.
Dedicated and experienced professionals of the organization have visited almost 65 districts of Nepal and nearly nine international countries for the preparation of reports and other materials required to prepare report and profile for the various assignments. Our team has intensive field experiences to internalize ground realities of poorest of the poor, development effects, negative impact of lack of development and so on.
